Tell me when

2 minutes

Tell me when, in Settings, is where you choose which mails you get about your walls. There are four, each with its own switch. Every one of them comes by email; there are no push notifications.

The four

  • Someone adds to a wall. On a wall for someone, a mail for each of the first ten squares, with the name of who added it. After that, one mail at 6pm with the day's count: 6 people added today, 21 in. Question walls get only the evening one. Mails about held squares on a full wall come under this switch too.
  • A wall opens. When the person it is for presses Open it, so you know it landed. The note on the day a far-off wall opens comes under this one, and so does the note a year on, with Replay.
  • A reply lands. When the person it is for writes back to a square, including the ones you made on other people's walls.
  • Someone is waiting for approval. For question walls with approval on: a note when answers are waiting in your queue.

Mails that always come

Your sign-in codes, and anything you asked for yourself, such as a receipt you sent to your email or the zip of your data. They come whatever the switches say.

Turning one off

Turn a switch off and that kind of mail stops at once, on every wall. In most mail apps there is also an unsubscribe link at the top of each mail, which turns off the same switch.

Turning a mail off changes nothing on the wall. Every square, every reply and every name is still there when you look.

For the people who add

People who add to your walls without an account hear only when the person replies to their square, and once if the person sends a thank-you to everyone. If they tap Keep track, they have an account of their own, and these switches apply to them.
